Have you ever seen

Hello Everyone,
Have you ever seen something or smelled something or even tasted something that triggered a memory? Well I did just the other day. We finally got in the last of the long awaited remaining Christmas fabric. And by the way, one of the lines we got in is Flannel and it is quilt stunning, called Crazy for Christmas by Maywood.

Any way two other Christmas fabric lines arrived also (Winter Games and Susybee Christmas Collection), and this is where my memory was triggered. Winter Games has sledding and snowboarding and just stuff you do in the snow. Susybee's Christmas has Sheep with Christmas scarfs on, well I will post a picture.

The Summer before my eighth grade year, we moved to Idaho from California. When Winter hit, boy oh boy was that a new experience for me. "SNOW" I found it quite amazing! One day after school Helen, Phillip, Scott, Marcia and Marsha invited me to go tubing with them. Yea I'll go, "What's tubing?" " Just dress real warm, we have extra tubes, we'll show ya". said Helen. So I layered up. I don't remember how many pairs of socks I put on, with a couple pairs of jeans over that, three or four sweaters and a coat, stocking hat, gloves, boots and I was set. I could hardly move, but I was set. (I'm thinking the puffy sheep in the Christmas fabric reminded me of how I felt in all those clothes.) The group came and got me and handed me a tube and we started walking east and out of town. The snow was up to our knees and it took some effort (most especially in the garb I was wearing. I have wondered if the group I was with wondered if I had literally put on everything in my closet.) I did question just how far out of town were we going? Not far they said.....we are going to the "HILL".

You know how in small towns they have names for things and places and everyone just knows what your talking about? Well the "Hill" was one of those. Thinking back, on our trek to the "Hill", we passed Helen's house. I recall Helen's mom asking where we were going and Helen's reply was: Oh just to the "Hill" . Her mom knew just where she meant. Not me, I looked around and there were hills everywhere. I knew enough to just follow the group!

Before  too long we arrived at the "HILL". The others started walking out into a field and I followed. Can I just take a second to mention I swear the winters were harder back then. I remember way more snow than we get now. Anyway, walking out into this field we had to walk a bit more east, then is when you realized the drop.  This was "THE HILL" Everything was covered in a couple feet of snow and no one had tubed the "Hill" as  yet. We were were going to be the first. It was a pretty decent slope to the bottom with a little creek wiggling through it, then the ground rose up again as there was a hill on the other side, kind of like a gully. I asked "How do you do this tubing thing?" Ok, so you could see the wonder in their faces of "Who in the heck doesn't know how to tube?" I'm not trying to be a dork here, but this is all new to me. "Just set the tube down near the edge, sit on it, give yourself a push, Oh just watch us." I wondered if we would just slide right on up the other side, but I was assured it got kinda flat at the bottom before the creek so you don't go up the other side, plus the creek would stop you. Well that felt better and safer. Then Scott hollered," If you are going real fast, be sure to roll off the tube at the bottom or you will fly into the water and it's cold".

A daredevil I am not, but I hopped on that tube, I gave it a push and away I flew. Snow flying in my face, screams of joy, tummy tickling, oh my gosh, it was the best time ever. Whom ever invented tubing was a genius! I so loved these friends for including me in this great fun. OK so the hike back up the "hill" wasn't so much fun especially in the closet full of clothing I was wearing, but anything was worth it to experience that again. Before long it was dark and time to head for home. I remember grabbing my tube and following the others as we crossed the field and back to the road to head west for home. I stopped for a moment and looked behind me at the "HILL" with the snow sparkling in the moonlight, the sky so crisp and clear and full of winter stars. Now I knew why every one knew about this place and no other description was needed. It's the place where memories were made.

We will be ending the month with a revisit to "Christmas in July Sale" only this time Christmas fabric will be 25% off. So come on in and make a memory, while your here......please share one! I did!

Till next time,

Hello Everyone,
I do hope all of you are enjoying your Summer. Summer seemed to come on fast this year. My goodness we are approaching the 24th of July. I read an ad yesterday advertizing Back to School. Didn't the kids just get out of school? I kinda hate to say it but, if we want to get our Holiday sewing done. We are going to have to get crackin!

Here at Thimbles and Threads we will be having some specials for Draper Days (24th of July celebration) I will get back with you with more details soon. We have sooooo many new fabric lines in and more coming each day. It's way fun. If your wondering.....yep, I am working on a little display using Burlap. I just couldn't stand it. Oh , and we got in some plain Burlap as well. Before I forget, we have white flannel in stock. Perfect for those Rag Quilts we all love so much. Lets not forget our clearance room. As new fabric arrives we have to make room for it. So we add to the clearance room. Always a great place to shop around in and find the deals and steals.

Okay, now I will step out side of my box for a moment. I have been asked by a number of you for the recipe for the desert that was served at the last event we had here at Thimbles and Threads. So here goes:

Heavenly Pie

¼ plus 2 Tbls. Butter
1 ½ c Flour
¼ c Sugar
1 c Walnuts (I use Pecans)
Put everything in a bowl and mix well. Mixture is kinda dry. Press in bottom of a 9x13 pan and Bake @ 375* for 20 min. Remove from oven and let cool.
Take a 1 ½ pkg. cream cheese (12 oz.) 1 ½ c Powered Sugar, 1 ½ tsp. Vanilla. Cream together and spread on cooled crust.
1 6oz. pkg. Instant Chocolate Pudding, 2 2/3 c Milk. Mix together, I use my hand mixer and mix for a couple of minutes. You will see it is setting up. Spread over Cream Cheese  layer. Spread Cool Whip on top. Depending on how much you like Cool Whip will depend on how big of a container you will need (8 or 12 oz.) Using real whipping cream is great as well. Just add a little unflavored gelatin to the cream when you are beating it so it will hold up and not go flat later on. I do like chopped nuts on top or shaved chocolate.

One more tip: This is totally yummy for breakfast. Just say-in!

I am still trying to get the German Potato Salad recipe. When I get it, I will post it for you.

I am enjoying Summer ever so much this year. I don't know why, I just am. I love the warmth (not hot), I love the smell of the flowers and of  people barbecuing, and the laughter of children playing. I do love a good game of Kick the Can . I love the smell of swimming pools and splashing water. Sewing outside while listening to the birds, trying to mimic their chirps. Ok, I admit I want to think I am talking bird talk , I don't know what I might be saying. But I want to think they do. Ok so maybe that one is ONLY me. There is a joy to Summer that just can't be described. Oh.....I love a good watermelon.

Take a walk, sit out side, figure out the cloud formations, find the constellations at night, breath in the fresh air, have a Popsicle. Wiggle your toes. Have some watermelon and think of me thinking I can talk to random birds. "There probably is some kind of medication for this!" Most importantly........Enjoy Summer and come see us for Draper Days!

Till next time,
Thimbleina

Christmas in July

Hello Everyone,
Boy oh boy has it been hot or what? Stick a fork in me I'm done! If you get our emails then you know this is the inspiration behind our Christmas in July sale. We have nine New Christmas lines in and we unveiled them this morning . Yep, we had a cover over them. No sneaky peeks! :-) We also have two more lines still coming this month. One is a beautiful flannel line and it is lushes. Another is a Christmas Batik line and boy is it pretty. Leesa and I just couldn't resist when we saw it. It is new and fun and fresh. What's not to love.

This is Moda's New Christmas line. It has Snowman Heads and Stars and , well come and see. Super cute and Country and Primitive. As you can see, Dark blue and tan and beige. First customer in the door this morning asked if we had any Moda Christmas. I showed her and Yep, she took her share home with her , she added a touch of red as well. I can hardly wait for that show and tell.
How cute are these Santas? We do have a quilt on it's way to completion using this line and yes we will have kits available when the quilt arrives back from the quilter!
This is a Twelve Days of Christmas Panel. The entire line is fun and bright and oh so Christmasy. I am totally making a little something out of this line. And yes, there will be kits when it is done. I will let you all know when all the kits are ready.

We have a nice line of Christmas miniatures. The detail is really nice on these. There is a quilt book showing right  above the line on the table. OK so I am no photographer, Leesa has so gotta teach me the art of achieving a great picture. Anyway, this fabric line is perfect for that quilt . Come judge for yourselves. Oh and while the cat is out of the bag....I kinda stink at spelling as well. Ohhhh so grateful for spell check!
I had a friend tell me she had had a difficult time finding candy cane fabric this year.  Well how cute is this line? And in a row no less!
This is an Angel Advent calender and she is precious. We in stock  these battery operated lights and you can insert them into the panel so that it lights up.
This is another advent calender and the entire line is adorable.
This line has built in bling! There is a Christmas Tree in Red or you could choose the Green color way. This line is from Northcott and it is the Stonehenge Christmas Collection. This line is what the battery operated lights were meant for. Oh so Sparkly!

Ok, I just had to share. Dan brought this quilt in today and it is so darn cute. Picture above, and this is the fabric line. Yes, this line is on sale today only. It is a Batik and it is 20% off.  Oh my gosh, is that fireworks of excitement I see and hear? You would think it was the 4th of July, Oh yea, it is the 4th of July.  Well Happy 4th of July Everyone!

Till next time,
Thimbleina
